Dog Barking Gone Mad

>> 5/29/09

The dog which barks unnecessarily is a pain to live with and agony to live next door to. Some dogs bark because their guarding instinct is very strong and they feel it necessary to alert you to every little noise. Some dogs bark because they are nervous and the sound of their own barking gives them confidence . Some bark because they like the reaction it provokes in you and some bark because they have not been taught not to. It is quite normal for a dog to bark if he hears a strong noise during the night. Continuing to bark after an acceptable time is what you want to deter.

In most cases the way to stop a dog barking is to teach him to bark on command.! This may sound very strange but it does work. At the same time as teaching him to bark you are also teaching him when not to bark.

For the dog to learn this exercise you need to enlist the help of a friend, so that you can set up the situation. You should be sitting and relaxing and then your helper comes to the door and rings the doorbell.. your dog will naturally bark and when he does give him the command speak. Allow him to bark for five seconds and then give him the command quiet, giving him lots of fuss when he does what he is told. Do not attempt to open the door until the dog is quiet . then go to the door open it and speak to your friend on the doorstep as you would a casual caller and then close the door.. go back and sit down and after an interval of 10 mins repeat the whole exercise.. Alternate between speaking to your friend on the doorstep and inviting him in to simulate what would sometimes happen.

Try to repeat this process over a few days ,building up the association with the dog that he is allowed to bark for five seconds when the doorbell rings but he must stop when you say so and the door must not be opened until he is quiet. You are also getting him to associate the word Speak with barking.

Why must the door never be opened until he is silent?

If you allow him to bark as you open the door then he will associate that his barking is what gets the door open, resulting in future problems.

If he is the type of dog who imagines there is someone at the door and barks often unnecessarily the only way you will get him to be quiet is to go and open it. You may even end up in a situation of the dog training you- every time he wants attention he will bark to provoke you into getting up to answer the door to an imaginary caller.

Having taught him to bark on the command speak, you will then be able to get him to bark if you ever feel in a threatening situation-when you are out for a walk and are approached by a suspicious character,or should you hear a strange noise in the middle of the night. You can also apply the same training if your dog barks every time the telephone rings. Arrange for a friend to call you and don t answer until the dog is quiet. On these occasions do not practice giving him the speak command as you do not want him barking every time the phone rings. Simply correct him for barking unnecessarily at the telephone.

How To Deal With The Chewing Puppy Syndrome

>> 5/28/09

Puppies are so adorable, with their fuzzy little coat of fur, winsome eyes, natural curiosity, loving ways and playfulness. However, there is a caveat here. One of the down sides of this bundle of cuteness is that puppies absolutely love to chew.

But this cute little bundle come with an annoying syndrome that might pose a problem to you and other members of the family and that is the inherent habit of a puppy to chew and shred everything and anything that it could get its teeth on. When you puppy chews havoc on your favorite pair of expensive shoes or you kids most loved toy, it is time for you to put an end to his habit.

Before you embark on an anti-chewing puppy project, you should first understand the need and reason behind his obsessive habit. The main reason might be because he is teething and trying to relieve the pain by chewing on anything that takes his fancy.

Because of their high sense of smell they might want to have a go at the objects which has lingering scents of the family members or they might be trying to ascertain their position in the family. Or, he might be chewing with enthusiasm just because he does not have anything else of interest to do. Whatever the reason, if you do not put a stop to this bothersome behavior, your puppy will never outgrow his chewing syndrome.

You first step to take care of this problem is to visit a local pet store and purchase some pet toys like hard rubber balls, fake bones, strong knotted sisal ropes and squeak toys. Once you have this loot in front of him, all you have to do is make him realize that this treasure trove is his and everything else in the house is yours.

Keep a close watch on him and the second you see him going for one of the household items, admonish him firmly with a Bad Dog! or No! and lead him to a restricted area where he can stay alone with his toys for some time. This place can be his kennel or a cardboard box big enough to hold him, where he can have a go at his toys.

The only punishment you should administer to your chewing puppy is the disapproval in your voice, followed by leading him to his own toys in a restricted area. This can be as simple as a large cardboard box or as fancy as a dog crate. Let him have his own toys and chew to his heart's content. With this simple process, he will eventually learn what belongs to whom!

The Pros Guide To Puppy Training

>> 5/27/09

Having a new puppy in the house is very exciting and fun. Everyone will want to touch the puppy, everyone will want to play with the puppy and everyone will want to feed the puppy. When you first bring your puppy home, you should take note that you are taking the puppy away from the mother. We know, your puppy is an animal and that is what animals do, but believe it or not, your puppy was used to the mother. This means your puppy is going to be vulnerable, so for the first couple of weeks, in order to go through successful puppy training, you should keep the puppy on a routine.

Once your puppy is on that routine for the first couple of weeks, we believe you are not going to have any problem. After about a month of sticking to the same routine, your puppy will begin to get used to it. This means, when you will need to do everything at the same time in the same order.

You wake up, your puppy gets some water, you take your puppy for a walk, your puppy comes back in, he or she eats and drinks, then she plays for a little while, goes back outside, takes a nap, etc. That's only half the day for your puppy.

Everyone has previously agreed that the puppy should not be jumping on them, but during the excitement, no one even notices the puppy is jumping on them. So there you are, the puppy has won and got to sleep in the bed and the next morning, there is puppy odor all over the bed from urinating. Therefore, the following night, the new puppy is in the crate and there he or she sits, yelping all night. No one in the house gets sleep.

We know you are very excited right now about your new puppy, but if you hold the puppy training off for a week, even a couple of days, it will be even harder to get your puppy into the routine you need him or her to be in.

When you're learning how to train your puppy, you need to make sure you don't allow your puppy to do other things, during the training sessions, he or she will get used to that routine. For instance, if you allow your puppy to make his or her own routine, they will begin to think what they are doing just fine. Allowing your puppy to sleep in your bed is probably a big no no. Instead of your puppy sleeping in the bed, he or she should try to sleep in his or her own bed or in a crate.

Whenever you see that your puppy is chewing on something, you should make sure you take it away from the puppy immediately and put something that belongs to him or her in front of the puppy. For instance, when you see your puppy chewing on a shoe, take the shoe away, point at him or her and say "no." Then hand the puppy one of his or her toys and pat the puppy softly. After a couple of weeks, you will see that your puppy is learning to chew on only the chew toys.

You should take note that puppies will need their sleep, just like you. Once you've learnt the real technique of puppy training and you have mastered it, you will be able to tell by the obedient dog that is sitting in front of you.

Learning how to train a puppy will make your life a whole lot easier as you build the bond of friendship between the two of you. At TopPuppyTraining.com we cover the works from potty training puppies tips to dog obedience commands and even simple tricks. How to Stop the Dog from Digging

>> 5/26/09

Dogs absolutely love to dig, some more than others. If you have a backyard then this spells danger for you. You dog can literally dig holes all through your yard in an afternoon if he gets the urge to do so.

Some dog owners have resigned themselves to the fact that their dog will dig up their yard regardless of what they try, others decide they won't tolerate it.

Many dog owners have gone through great lengths like installing an electric fence around their gardens. The fence is not very expensive and the low shock is relatively safe for you dog, it will mostly scare them away and keep them out of the garden. If you have children, and they should touch this fence, you will not have to worry about them hurting them as long as they have on rubber soled shoes. Additionally you can just turn it off when the dog is back inside the house. Anyway the dog will be staying away from your garden from now on.

You can try placing foul moth balls throughout the garden - this is a technique that is very effective but also has a downside. First, the positives: your dog will hate the smell of these and stare clear of the garden, they are also totally harmless and can be hidden out of sight. The only real downside is that you'll need to replace these from time to time, especially it it's been raining.

Another way to keep your dog from destroying your garden, is to use a new method, this is a sour apple spray that can be sprayed all over you yard on a daily basis. It can actually be used on any of the things you would prefer the dog not to touch. The reason this is such an effective method is because your dog will hate that taste of sour apple in their mouth and will not want to chew on anything that they find this taste on. Also after a while of tasting it on that object they will associate the object with the taste and stay away for it instinctively.

Dog's dig because they are conditioned to do so. Its in their blood. If you work consistently to stop your dog digging using the tricks mentioned above, you should be able to almost totally eradicate the problem.

Be sure to put your foot down and become inventive with things that can be repeated on a regular basis to ensure that the dog learns what you want to teach him. Be patient and loving but be firm with your pet and life with your dog will be the better for it.

Training Your Dog To Deliver to Hand

>> 5/23/09

Force fetch training is training your dog to fetch or pick up a dummy, bird, or other object on command. The purpose of force fetch training is to prevent the dog from dropping the birds, having a hard mouth, and create a disciplined behavior.

Start your lab pup by never allowing them to drop the dummy or bird. The behavior you are looking for for is the delivery of the dummy or bird to your hand. You should start this behavior at an early age. When the puppy is retrieving never advance to the puppy. Stand still or take a step back as the pup returns to you with the dummy. Puppies naturally love to chase and be chased. If you go to the puppy as he is returning in the retrieve he will have a tendency to turn and playfully run from you.

Use the former and move away from the pup a step or two as he retrieves the dummy. Attach a 6 foot length cord to the puppy's collar. When the puppy comes to you, crouch down and gently place your hand under the puppy's chin to reinforce the holding of the dummy. Praise the pup as he holds the dummy in his mouth. Then take the check cord and guide him to the heel position. After the pup is in heel position with the bird or dummy in his mouth praise and reward the dog.

Repeat this exercise until it becomes a natural sequence for the dog to fetch, hold the dummy, and take a heel and sit position. Do not take the bird or dummy until the dog has completed the series of steps and is in a heel sit position. We recommend you use a canvas dummy. Using a plastic dummy increases the probability that you will have problems with the pup not wanting to deliver to hand. Plastic dummies are slippery when wet and not as comfortable for the dog to carry. If you want to learn more about Thorncreek services contact Diane Koontz at http://www.thorncreekkennels.com

Dog Training and Why It Is Important

>> 5/22/09

Dog training is no simple process, and it can very easily push your patience to the limit. But keep in mind that the tough part does not last long. Shortly afterwords you will be able to enjoy letting your dog play and run without any misfortunes or incidents. You will be able to relax and enjoy time with your dog after its obedience training is complete. However, the first steps up are the steepest, so to speak, when it comes to dog training in the home. Keep in mind that is is very important to get all the help that is available to you.

Even though it may be frustrating and seem like a never ending process, housebreaking a dog and training it in commands is just one of those things you have to do. If you give up on the training you will find that there could be a lot of serious consequences to face such as: destroyed furniture, accidents all over the house, aggressive behavior as well as biting.

In order to make sure that you are giving your dog the best chance at a happy and well-behaved life then you have to be the strict parent of your pet. You have to teach the dog right from wrong with dog training. Sadly there are people who assume that dogs automatically know the difference between right and wrong but this is simply not true. The problem with that assumption is that dogs only know what their instincts are and this is why we as the owners have to take advantage of dog training. The dog’s instincts do not know what the human rules are about being allowed on the furniture.

We, as the owners and the teachers of the pets, have to slowly and patiently walk our pets through dog training in order to teach them the way we live. Your dog wants to please you but until you teach it how to, it will be at a loss. Dog training will teach the dog the behavior you want it to have. It will also show the dog how to receive your affection and little extra treats every once in a while.

Sources For Dog Training Advice

* Class

* Book

* DVDs

* Special Issue Magazine

Although there are a lot of wonderful dog training classes out there that will teach you about housebreaking and dog biting, it is important to know that these classes are mostly for information. Miracles will not be performed during these classes. The real work will take place once you are at home with your dog. Everything that you pick up from the dog training classes has to be enforced at home as this is where the magic will happen.

When you are dog training it is best to get a hold of any book, DVD, etc. Ensure that you pay attention to all the advice you receive and apply it wisely. Some breeds of dogs are easier to train than others so it is difficult to put a universal time frame for successful completion of dog training. With persistence and consistency, you should see results from the dog training very soon.

3 Dog Training Commands That You Should Teach Your Dog First

>> 5/21/09

Whether you are getting a new dog or beginning to work with an old dog, obedience training is a must! There are a number of dog training commands that are important to teach your dog. What dog training commands are the most important to begin with? The three most important dog training commands are: come, wait/stay, and let's go. These dog training commands are important for both a well mannered dog and also for safety. The three most important dog training commands:

1. Come: This command is vital and could really be a case of life or death in the event of an emergency. For this reason, come is one of the most important dog training commands to teach your dog. Your dog should be trained to understand to come to you on the first command, and although no dog is ever 100% reliable, you should work to be as reliable as possible with your dog. Come should always be trained in a positive and fun manner. Never be a kill-joy! Don't use come only to end the dog's fun. Instead, practice it LOTS with toys and treats and reward the dog as much as possible so that coming to you is always fun. Also, never get in the habit of chasing your dog when you need it to come. This only sets up a bad habit and makes your come very unreliable.

2. Wait/Stay: Another one of the most important dog training commands is wait or stay. Wait is about asking your dog not to cross an invisible or real boundary line until you have given it permission. Generally, it is best used when you want the dog to stay back from entry ways, such as the front door, or you want the dog to remain inside a car with an open door. Stay asks the dog to hold a particular position, like sit or down, and stay in a particular location. Teaching a good, strong stay means you know you can place your dog in a position and hopefully count on it to stay there.

3. Let's Go: Let's Go represents the last of the most important dog training commands because it is the phrase you give your dog on the walk. It represents for the dog a style of walking and lets him know when you are moving from one place to another. Let's Go should be a nice, looser leash walk that is controlled. A good Let's Go means your dog can walk reasonably well on the leash. Your dog understands this command means you are moving on, so it can be used to move the dog away from something it is currently doing. For example, if your dog is visiting another dog or person, and you are ready to move on, Let's Go tells the dog you are leaving and to follow you. These three dog training commands represent an excellent starting point in your training. These are the most important dog training commands to begin training with and to build from.

Dog Out of Control? Dog Obedience Training Is the Answer!

>> 5/20/09

Dogs make excellent buddies, they are commonly regarded as "man's best friend" and without a doubt they excellently fit the bill. But what happens the moment your dog habitually disobeys your every command? And, what happens when you teach your pooch some dog obedience training, but you only get a growl for an answer?

The above mentioned scenarios are definitely frustrating for a dog owner. You maybe very keen to teach your dog how to behave as he should, but to no avail. So, before your dog claims the position of being master, now is the best time to teach him who the real boss is. This kind of introduction will help you draw the line between the leader and the follower.

With some dogs, obedience training can be an extremely difficult and challenging task but not impossible even with the most difficult dogs. This domestic animal wasn't really born dogged and unruly. A dog's significant reputation of being well-trained, reliable and companionable still towers above the down points. And so, regardless of off-putting and negative traits your pooch may possibly possess, the fundamental truth that they can still be tamed is something that you should focus on.

In this article, the focal point deals with common commands and orders use to train and establish compliance and obedience among dogs.

One of the most widely held basic commands in dog obedience training is positive reinforcement. For new handlers wanting to instill obedience of simple commands in their dogs can go for positive reinforcement training.

Positive reinforcement is used by rewarding the dog with treats for positive behavior. For instance, teaching your dog the basic "sit" command, if your pooch acknowledges your order and without much ado executes as you've commanded, a simple praise or a treat provides further encouragement and motivation to your dog. If he does otherwise, an easy pat on the rear will help signal your pooch to keep on trying.

Moreover, dog obedience training can also be performed through dog training collars. These types of collars are fast becoming popular among dog owners, as it makes way for easy handling and training. Contrary to reports that dog training collars aren't animal friendly and advocates dog cruelty, these collars serve as good foundation towards training your pooch to listen, obey and act upon.

Remember all dogs are trainable. The process may be lengthy and lingering, but the reward of obedience training for your dog the proper way is nothing compared to the frustration of having a dog that doesn't listen. Do yourself and your dog a favor and start the training today!

Friendly Training Methods to Communicate with your Dog

>> 5/18/09

Many people become frustrated with a dog that just won't listen. They want to be to understand their dog and develop communication method that the dog will understand. Fortunately, there are number 'friendly' training methods that you can use to help you communicate with your dog, which will help eliminate behavior problems.

Most behavior problems like biting, jumping on strangers, urinating on the floor, and barking, result from a failure to communicate properly with your dog. Basically, the dog does not understand what you are trying teach him. 'Dog-Friendly' methods of training means you can communicate and dog training without inflicting pain or anger. They are positive reinforcement techniques that are fun for both you and your dog.

Using friendly training methods that include positive training techniques will help you develop a trusting life-long bond with your dog. To build a strong owner-dog relationship, based on trust and mutual respect, incorporating the following techniques will help:

Kindness and Patience is Essential: Yelling, hitting, using choke collars, or electric shock, is not only cruel, but will not train your dog. He will develop a fear of you and most likely develop other behavioral problems such as aggression, trust, love, and respect, are essential to understanding and communication with your dog. Of course, your dog should know its position in the family, and that you are the 'top dog' so to speak, but you do not have to do this using punishing and inhumane methods. It won't work. Friendly training helps you work with your dog's natural instincts

Training and Play: One thing that dogs love is play. Make your training fun. Motivate the dog with treats and praise when he accomplishes a task. For instance, if your dog is jumping on you, praise your dog every time he greets you by sitting. When you meet him, assist him with sitting and then praise him or give him a treat. Repeating the sitting technique, the dog will learn he is rewarded for sitting and not jumping on you. Make sure you are consistent with the training technique and reward. You do not want to confuse the dog.

Association and Repetition: Dogs do not have the ability to learn something once. You have to associate the word with the action you want it to perform. For instance, if you want it to lie down, you can use the correct signal and you can lay down with your dog. After it lies down, you can reward him with a treat or praise. Keep repeating the method and your dog will learn to associate the word and action. Connecting words with actions in a positive way .is essential to success

Arrange for Your Dog to Succeed: Throughout your training session, make sure you incorporate easy techniques so you can reward him. The reward for succeeding will stay with him. He will be a much happier dog. Ending the session with a successful training technique will leave him feeling happy. Keep Positive: Some dogs will take longer to learn than others. If you get angry or show frustration, your dog will pick up on your negative energy. The dog will be confused and react to your negative emotions by displaying negative behavior.

Clicker Reinforcement: Use a clicker device to make a 'click' sound when your dog does something right. They will begin to learn that the sound means they did something right.

Dogs are never entirely trained. As the owner, you must keep up with the positive reinforcement techniques. If you don't, the dog may forget some learned behaviors. Communication is critical to creating a life long bond with your dog. It is important to observe how your dogs react to situations so you learn its body language. Talk to your dog in a kind and loving voice and you will soon find yourself with a loyal life friend.

Learn Socialization Tips For Your Puppy Now!

>> 5/14/09

The earliest days after a new dog joins your family are exhilarating times. Everyone is adjusting and getting used to all of the new excitement. This is the time when you need to make sure that you are doing everything you can to properly socialize your new family member. Your dog will stumble upon many different situations throughout his life and it is better for everyone if he learns early on how to react in an agreeable and healthy manner.

Puppies can get going to learn socialization skills as early as 2 to 3 weeks after they are born. Most people who get a new puppy get them at about 7 or 8 weeks old and they should initiate socializing them as soon as possible. Puppies tend to be more frightened and tentative up until the time they are 14 weeks old so during this time make sure that you are tender with them.

Socialization is a ability that should be trained throughout a dog's life. Different situations and circumstances can have an effect on a dog and he can change from affectionate and outgoing to shy, afraid or even threatening. That is why it is critical to train socialization skills throughout your dog's life. Permit him to practice a variety of situations, numerous people and other animals.

Acquaint your dog with other dogs and other animals. You can do this at a neighborhood park or even a doggie daycare. If you have friends with pets, visiting them is always a enjoyable way to socialize your dog around other animals. Make sure that your dog is at all times up to date on his vaccinations but it is imperative for him to be around other animals.

People who arrive to your house regularly should all be recognizable to your dog. That would include the mailperson. Introduce them and let your dog get familiar. If it is possible make sure that you take your dog around many diverse people, as it will add to his social skills immensely.

Dogs are natural pack animals and they will re-establish the pack in their brand new home. This means that it is critical that humans are always seen as the foremost member of the pack. When a human speaks the dog should follow, every time, no matter what. The dog is the follower and the humans are the leaders.

Socialization should go on throughout the life of your dog. Your dog needs to constantly come across new situations and new people and animals. He will be less likely to develop problems like biting and fighting if he is well socialized.

Your dog training will be more successful and you and other people will get pleasure from your pet more if he is properly socialized and well-behaved in the majority of situations.

Are You Failing Miserably At House Breaking Your Puppy?

>> 5/13/09

Having a puppy or a dog is a serious business. It's fun for sure, but there's some work involved. And one of the first things you'll need to tackle when you have a new puppy is house breaking your puppy. Potty training puppies is no picnic.

That's not to say it's necessarily all that hard, just that it can be if you don't know what you're doing.

And if you don't want a completely disrupted household then you need to get it right. For your sake, for your puppy's sake and for the sake of everyone else who lives in the house.

And it may not even be a puppy you're house breaking. Not everyone starts with a puppy, some for various reasons end up with an adult dog. Not that it's impossible to house train an adult dog, but like a puppy you need to know what you're doing.

It takes more than a page to set out everything you need to know about house breaking puppies and dogs, I keep that for my website. But there's a few things you should know at the start.

The first thing to appreciate is that your dog or puppy looks to you, as the boss dog, to set the rules and make them clear. Dogs are prepared to follow the rules, but you need to teach them correctly. Some people think that teaching the rules involves punishing your dog for every breach of the rules, but don't.

But you do need to be firm and consistent setting the rules.

In the past dog owners would show the potty place to the dog then punish him every time he got it wrong until he got it right. This is a recipe for serious household stress and failure. You need to use positive reinforcement.

And potty training a puppy is a process that takes as long as it takes. Regardless of how long it takes. Every dog or puppy is different. There is no recommended time, it will take as long as it takes. It will work if you're doing it right, it just may not work tomorrow.

Don't expect immediate results. Be happy if you get them, but keep at it if you don't.

House breaking a puppy is a procedure. You need to learn the right procedure then follow it for as long as it takes for your puppy to get it. Be consistent, don't punish, keep the training up and every puppy can be house trained.

It's about you as much as it's about him. Know what you're doing and do it as long as you need to, consistently. Find out more advice about house breaking puppy at my website.

Secrets to Stop Your Dog Chasing

>> 5/12/09

There are some dogs, who think it is there job to chase everything that moves. They chase children, cars and any other moving vehicle. These dogs run the risk of being in an accident or causing one. In many times they are injured or may even in the worse case scenario; die in one of their chasing activities. Each dog that chases cars also proves to be an annoying aggravation to people who are driving and kids on bicycles. In the case of cars, it can also jeopardize the lives of many people.

You can avoid the horrible situation of losing your dog by working through some techniques to curb your dogs behavior. It's vital that you work on training your dog as the alternative may mean you lose your dog for good, a terrible situation to think about.

When you start your training with your dog to stop him from chasing you must remember that patience is the key. When you are working with him, yelling will not stop him from running, it may actually do one of two very dangerous things, the dog may run even faster and possibly pay less attention to what they are running to or they may stop suddenly in the middle of the street and cause an accident. Instead buy a leash for your dog so that he can't take off into the street and teach him about walking calmly on a leash.

You will also want to teach him to heel when you command him to. If your dog heels when you want him to, you may still want the added protection of a long leash for your dog. Make him walk next to you instead, keeping a firm hold on the leash and telling him to heal before crossing the street. Do not get excited when he does what you say or you will make him get the wrong idea about what you mean and will not hear you when you tell him to stop chasing the cars.

The best way to teach your dog to heal is to walk around with your dog and to stop on occasions and request that it "Heels". Give your dog a small treat when he follows your command. Little by little he will learn the heeling is a good behavior. If this training simply isn't working for you, I suggest you get your dog to a professional dog trainer or use a dog training guide to train it not to chase cars.

Once you have successfully taught your dog how to heel, you will be able to relax when your dog is outside, you can even walk your dog without a leash if you're totally confident in him. Just remember to avoid over praising your dog as this will bring about bad behaviors again. Keep calm and give a little praise for good behavior, not a lot.

7 Dog Obedience Training Tips to Help You with Your Dog

>> 5/11/09

Training your dog is perhaps the most important thing you should do not only for your puppy but also for yourself. Obviously, dogs are animals, and without proper obedience training, they will indeed behave like animals! After all,
wouldn't you teach your child the difference between right and wrong? Likewise, if you want to develop desirable habits in your puppy and at the same time prevent undesirable behaviors, you definitely need to provide your dog with good
obedience training.

Here are 7 dog obedience training tips that can help you along the way:

1. First of all, you need to get your dogs attention before you start training him.

2. Start your dog training sessions as soon as your dog arrives at your home. While you can teach old dogs new behaviors or tricks, keep in mind that what is learned
earliest is often learned easiest and fastest. For that reason, start training your puppy early on.

3. Teach your dog only one command at a time, and do not move on until he understands the trick you are trying to teach him. A few minutes of dog training on a daily basis is all that is required.

4. Train your dog with love, kindness and respect because this method will certainly create a good relationship between you and your puppy.

5. Reward your dog for his good performance over and over again. This is a valuable approach that you must follow when you are providing training to your puppy.

6. Reward your dog by treating him with lip smacking things, and by exclaiming to him "Good dog" in a satisfied voice. Recompense your dog each time he follows your command, particularly when he is learning a new behavior. After that, you only need to reward your dog's best behavior.

7. Have fun with your puppy on a regular basis. This could actually make it simple for you to develop a deep bond between you and your dog.

Boston Terrier Training Made Easy

Without questions, Boston terriers are a very popular breed of dog. For all their popularity however, Boston terrier training can be somewhat difficult. It takes a lot of time and a time of patience. If you have one of these terriers, you may be afraid that training him is an exercise in futility. That is not the case at all. You just need to follow a few techniques which will help you avoid some mistakes.

A lot of people believe that because Boston terriers are so stubborn, it will take upwards of six months in order to get the dog or puppy fully trained. This is actually a misconception and it is certainly not correct. Your first thought should be 'my dog will be trained immediately', not that it will take six months to see any type of result from the training!

Another very common mistake that a lot of owners make is going to be using their aggression as a training tool. One thing you need to remember about training your dog is you do not want him/her to be afraid of you. If you are constantly yelling at the dog and using an aggressive tone, they will just cower and not really learn anything.

On the flip side, if you treat your dog like you treat your best friend, you are not going to get anywhere with it. This is something that a lot of dog owners have a lot of problems with. While you want to nurture and treat your dog with respect, you are still the dog's owner and you need to make sure that they know that you are, in fact, an authority figure.

Now that you know what tone you should be using, it is now time to move onto the actual training process. There are a few things that you need to keep in mind and one is that you can not overload your pooch. Doing this will honestly do no good at all, you really just need to focus on one thing at a time and then move onto the next thing.

Another thing that you will want to keep in mind whenever you are dealing with dogs is that you are not having the training time too long. You can not schedule hour long training sessions because honestly - your dog will not want to listen to you for an hour and they will usually act out. Fifteen minutes or thirty minutes is perfect for a dog training session.

More than anything, you want your dog to have fun during training. Otherwise, he will not pay any attention to what you are trying to teach him. Making it fun will make him more apt to listen and retain his training. And do not worry, just because your dog is having fun during his training does not mean he will not listen. In fact, it will make him far more apt to pay attention to what you are teaching.

As you can see, there are many, many different things that you really need to think about whenever you are dealing with training your Boston terrier. Just keep these tips in mind and you will have a dog soon enough that is very well-behaved and extremely well-mannered . which is what we all want!

Dog Obedience Training - Who's the Alpha Dog of Your Pack?

>> 5/8/09

One of life's genuine joys is the companionship of a dog. However, if your dog exhibits major behavior problems, that joy may be compromised. Destroying household items, piddling on the carpet, excessive barking, aggression, and other unacceptable behaviors can usually be eliminated through effective obedience training.

As pack animals, dogs are most content when they know their place in the social hierarchy of the pack, be it as a leader or as a subordinate.

When your dog believes that you are not a very strong leader, he will most likely take over the role of "alpha dog". His bad behavior will only get worse since, as the leader of the pack, he will assume that he can do anything he wants, paying little attention to your commands.

Unless you impress upon your dog that you are the "alpha dog", your efforts to teach appropriate behavior will most likely fail. However, effective obedience training will teach your pooch that YOU are the leader of the pack and that he is expected to comply with your wishes.

When you begin obedience training try to make the activity fun for your dog. Be sure to reward your dog when he does well. Rewards can take the form of tasty treats, petting, giving him a favorite toy or vigorous praise.

Never punish your dog when conducting obedience training. If he associates obedience training sessions with punishment he will do everything he can to avoid it. When you need to correct a behavior problem, try to make it a penalty instead of a punishment. A penalty can be anything from a "time out" (stopping an activity that he enjoys), a quick tug on his leash, or simply ignoring him for a few moments.

When training your dog, remember that rewards are much more effective than penalties. Discover the things that he truly enjoys and make maximum use of it during training sessions. The old adage about training an animal with either a carrot or a stick is not valid. Just throw away the stick and concentrate on providing your dog with a variety of "carrots" that he enjoys.

If you are not sure about specific training techniques you may benefit from studying the tactics used by professional dog trainers. There are several terrific training courses and guide books available online that you may want to consider to help you in your quest for the obedient dog.

Obedience Training for Dogs Revealed

>> 5/7/09

One of the most important activities that you will ever do with your dog is to give them obedience training. While obedience training will not stop every behavior problem your dog may have, it helps pave the way for helping you to communicate effectively with your dog. It teaches them what you will not accept from their behavior and it gives them commands that you will use with them on a regular basis. It also teaches you the proper way to demand obedience from your dog.

Dogs that have not been properly trained often exhibit a wide range of undesirable behaviors, some of those include inappropriate elimination, fighting, aggression, barking, and destroying furniture and personal belongings. These types of bad behavior gradually get worse over time especially if your dog sees you as a weak leader. This makes training much more difficult and time consuming.

Obedience training will also set you up as the chief of the pack. This top dog status will make training a lot easier and your dog will thrive to please you.

When you start your obedience training you will need to remember to keep it fun for your dog. This will strengthen your bond and definitely make your relationship much better. Your dog will feel safe and loved; training them will bring you the success you are looking for in your dog.

If you are unsure of exactly how to obedience train your dog, you may benefit from using the services of a professional dog trainer. Professional dog trainers train your dog in the correct way making things much easier for you. You will learn proper commands and your dog learns how to obey them.

Training should always be fun and to the point. Don't draw out training as long training are actually detrimental to your dogs learning. Make the training as fun as possible, always include 1 or 2 of your dog favorite games. Stay consistent and firm throughout training.

Make sure that you offer rewards and treats when your dog accomplishes tasks correctly. This offers great encouragement for your dog and stimulates further improvement. Be careful to stay calm when praising your dog, if you get too carried away your dog will get excited and lose focus.

Affection and treats are a big part of successful obedience training. As a side note, always limit reprimanding your dog as this doesn't really offer any positives to the training and will in most cases only make the training less effective.

Effective obedience training of your dog will bring happiness to you and your dog. Always reward positive behavior and your dog will try to please you in return.

5 Steps To Stop Your Puppy From Chewing

>> 5/5/09

Does your puppy or dog chew? Chances are it does. In this article you will learn 5 tips I use to stop puppies chewing. You'll never have to worry about your favourite pair of running shoes again!

The first thing you need to do is to get your dog checked out by a vet. Sometimes puppies and dogs chew due to underlying medical reason's, we need to make sure that everything is ok with our dogs before proceeding with this training.

Chewing is one of the most important phases dogs go through, it shouldn't be banned totally, all you should be trying to achieve is to teach your dog what can and what can't be chewed. You also need to teach your dog about items that are dangerous to chew - such as power-cords etc.

The "No" command is the easiest thing you can use to teach your dog what can and can't be chewed on. Tell your dog "No" in a firm way anytime it starts to chew on something it shouldn't be. Then remove the item from the dog in a slow but authoritative manner. If your puppy resist, squirt water in its face and then take the object.

Don't rush up to get the object from your dog as it will think you are playing. Slowly walk to the dog and remove the object it's chewing. For objects that can't be moved, consider using a spray deterrent such as bitter apple spray.

The idea is not to destroy your dogs chewing aspirations. You should encourage it to chew on chew toys, bones and crunchy biscuits instead of your shoes.

Some puppies and dogs may resist when you try to teach them not to chew. If this is the case, be cautious as your dog may turn aggressive on you.

Use the tips mentioned above to train your dog what can and can't be chewed. In time and with a little persistence your dog will know exactly what she should and shouldn't be chewing.

How to Train Your Beagle Dog

>> 5/4/09

Who doesn't simply loves a Beagle when they meet one in their daily lives. Of course, Beagles are always very delightful with their lovable eyes and friendly attitude. Nevertheless training them can be a chore. If you want to be successful at training your beagle, you must put in a lot of hard work and be very patient and consistent with your pet. Only then will you train your beagle right.

If you want to train a Beagle well then you need to possess this essential trait: you'll need significant amounts of diligence to train it. Avoid giving up once you decide to train a Beagle. You need to show a large amount of commitment in training your Beagle.

It's in a Beagle's instinct to hunt and thus gets lose attention effortlessly, all set to run from one place to another for no reason at all. Training beagles requires you to focus their energy so that they are controlled. If you own a beagles, make sure they have a lot of space to run around otherwise they will do it in your house and cause problems.

Make sure your beagle gets a lot of exercise because when a Beagle doesn't usually play enough to make use of its energy, then it becomes restless and makes a mess indoors. When you are outside with your pet, make sure it is always on a lease otherwise it will run away from you in all directions. Be assertive because a Beagle always responds much better to a person who's in total command of the situation. Don't wait till your Beagle is too mature to start training it.

If you wait to train it after it has grown very old, you will get only negligible results on its training. You can start your Beagle's training from the age of eight weeks. Start with all the basic commands like stand, sit, down, heel, etc. Once it displays some obedience, it shows that you are succeeding at your training attempt. You then need to go to the next level of training - continue with the more complex commands that you have planned for your Beagle.

If you don't have a fenced property, install some fences so that the Beagle doesn't get lost while trying to roam away from your home. This will help you from preventing your pet from getting hurt in any possible way. Beagles are social animals - they always love to be in a group. Never try to keep a Beagle alone for long periods of time. This will make them bad tempered and sluggish. It's also bad for their health as they tend to put on unwanted extra weight on their bodies. Since Beagles have an excellent sense of smell, if it is trained well, it can be used for detection work of various kinds. Thus all your efforts spent on your Beagle will prove to be useful.

Discover How To Leash Train Your New Puppy

>> 5/1/09

People and dogs both enjoy to go for walks. When you adequately train your puppy for the leash you can really enjoy your walks. If you fail to adequately train your puppy for the leash that same walk can be an exercise in frustration.

In order to properly leash train your puppy, you need to start when he is very young. It will be easier the younger he is. Start out by getting him used to the collar. At first he is probably going to fight it but just keep it on him. If he starts whining and crying about the collar and you take it off you will have just taught him how he can have his way and you will always have problems. Make him wear the collar; just make sure that you take it off from him before you crate him to avoid any accidents.

Soon your puppy will be used to the collar and he will be ready to do the same thing with the leash. Attach the leash and let him get used to it by letting him drag it around. Be sure that someone is watching him though as he could cause some chaos if he gets tangled up. Soon you can pick up the leash and start walking around the house. It is easier to start where he feels safe so even though it seems odd to walk your puppy in the house it is still the best place to start.

You can then walk him around in the yard. Make sure as you are walking that you reinforce the good behaviors and discourage the bad conduct.

Puppies will often pull at the leash. When he starts pulling the leash just stop moving and stand still. If you stop every time he pulls he will quickly learn not to pull anymore. Give him commands and communicate during this time also to encourage bonding and reinforce his training.

Another technique you can use when your dog is pulling is to turn and quickly walk the other direction. He will be confused but if you do it every time he will soon learn that pulling is something that you will not put up with. Repeat these techniques until he completely stops pulling on the leash.

Sometimes a puppy will just stop walking himself. If your puppy stops and will not come, you can persuade him with a treat. Put the treat at your feet and make him come to it. Don't call him to it. Soon he will learn that he should not stop when you are taking a walk.

As soon as your dog is walking next to you with the leash slack make sure that he knows that this is what you want. Words of praise and an occasional treat will go a long way towards reinforcing this behavior. Practice with him often and never let him get away with bad behavior and your puppy will be properly leash trained before you know it.
